LUCKEY SAYS: "When it comes to HoseTechniques’ hoses, whatever the shape or size I’m designing, my first priority is quality. That’s always No.1. Very importantly, we use American-made Dow Corning® silicone because of its high quality and its ability to maintain color consistency. We color-match with all our other hoses (both couplers and our vacuum lines) to provide the color consistency that customers have come to expect from our hoses. All HoseTechniques’ standard couplers are reinforced with multiple plies of DuPont™ Nomex®. We use Nomex® (the same material normally used for race car driver suits) due to its extreme high temperature tolerance and flexibility. Other materials that can be used as hose reinforcement are plies of polyester or Fiberglas. Usually polyester is low cost and is used as reinforcement wherever heat is not a factor as it has a lower temperature rating than Nomex®. Fiberglas is approximately the same cost as Nomex® and is also used for high heat applications but it has a serious drawback. Fiberglas is not flexible and will eventually wear and become weak - this situation can cause a hose connection to rupture or fail. In summary, Nomex® has valuable properties that the alternatives do not. It maintains a higher heat rating than polyester and it is not brittle like Fiberglas."
